LEGEND OF TENTENECIO

One day a brave bull ran for the streets of Salamanca. San Juan de Sahagún (patron saint of Salamanca), which was walking found the animal and said to him "Tente, necio" (In english "stop fool!"). The bull stopped. Nowadays this street is called Street Tentenecio.

LEGEND OF LUNES DE AGUAS

Lunes de aguas means Waters Monday. It is a very typical day in Salamanca. People goes to the fiel and eat hornazo (also very typical). It is because in XVI century Felipe II, Spanish king, ordered that all prostitutes in City had to leave Salamanca during the Lent and Holy Week.They went to another side of the river and the Padre Putas (clergyman) watched them.
When Holy Week finished, prostitutes returned to the City crossing the River by boats. Students went to the River to receive the girls with drink and hornazo.

LEGEND OF THE CAVE OF SALAMANCA

Devil was teaching necromancy and esoterism in this Cave. There was a seven students´group. Devil asked them to change 7 years of learnings for the soul of one of them.
Enrique de Villena was the unfortunate but he was able to escape of the Cave, losing his shade. Since then people thought that he was a follower of the devil.
Nowadays the Cave still exits.

LEGEND OF MARIA LA BRAVA.

In the XV century Salamanca was divided in two decrees: San Benito (Monroy family) and Santo Tomas. They were discussing continuously. One day two sons of Maria de Monroy were murdered. Maria persecuted the assassins from Salamanca to Portugal. She found them in Portugal and killed them. She beheaded them and returned to Salamanca with heads and throw them to the tomb of his sons. For that reason she is known like Maria la Brava (Brave Mary)
