
Main Square
In 1710 Felipe V rewarded to Salamanca with this spectacular square for the support offered during the Succession War. It was constructed between 1729 and 1755. It is of Churrigueresque style (this is a Baroque variant).
The square has round arches and decoration of medallions with faces of important people.
In the east there are Kings of Spain, in the south, important people of the spanish history and in the other two, important people of Salamanca.
Fronts do not have the same length and the Plaza is asymmetric.
Each one of the sides has a height of three floors and the same appearance, except the front of the Town hall.
The Main Square is National Monument since 1935 and Historical-Artistic Monument since 1973.
